One of the Pages of Prophecy regulars, High Inquisitor Gaidin,
cajoled his grandfather into reading The Wheel of Time. What Grandpa Brad responded with was just plain hillarious. Everyone who has read it so far has definitely loved it.
In the words of HIG himself, Brad is, "highly intelligent, extremely well-read, but not a fantasy lover by any means." There is only one word to fully explain what you are about to see: unique. |

I finished reading your Robert Jordan book on the way home from Texas,
and if I wait too long to do a book review for you, I will forget what
the book was about and won't know what to say. Lets' make a deal ... I
won't make you read my Hillary Clinton and Lyndon Johnson books if you
don't make me read another one of these ... here are a few comments in
paragraph form ... before I get to the positive and complementary stuff:
One, I have first hand exposure and experience with an Aes Sedai ... I been married to one for over thirty years ... they are easiest to live with when their batteries are all run down and they are feeling kinda puny ... Robert Jordan has this part right. Two, I can relate to the blacksmith ... I always wanted to talk to my dogs, especially Bonnie, but I'm not big on having my eyes turn yellow... my face is bad enough as it is ... can you imagine a tired ole flabby sun ruined face and yellow eyes too ? Three, I met some Children of the Light in Greensville Texas once, but they told me they were Baptist ... and I didn't know the difference. Robert Jordan has already taught me a lot. Four, I'm not so sure about Dark Friends, but I think I have met many in the Management of various companies that I have worked for ... in fact it may be that many of the people that worked for me down through the years thought I was a Dark Friend. Five, I love that Dragon Fang jazz, Bonnie (his little dog) leaves these for me all over the back yard.... Six, I think Min at the Stag and Lion was proably the sexiest of the whole lot ... I never figured out what she was up to ... but the odds are someone could have had a hell of a good time with her .. Seven, Robert Jordan stole Sunday off our calendar ... the big copy cat. Eight, is the Time of Madness the same as the 1960's ??? Nine, Randal Thor stikes me as pretty cool ... but he should get a life... I reckon he is strong enough to carry the world on his shoulders ...and in what book downstream does he finally find a girl ... this guys love life is going to waste ! Ten, I think I read about the Five Powers somewhere else ... I took this Greek Mythology class once that I thought was going to be a crip, but it wasn't .... Eleven, I kept waiting for someone to have a good time in this book, but it never happened ... maybe when Egg Weeney was dancing with this Gypsy dude Aram ... but everyone else seemed tired, scared, worn out, ill, homesick, hungry, cold, and kind of unhappy ... Twelve, Every letter from the IRS gives me the same problem that Mat had with the knife he found ... I start the fetal position bit and get real suspicious of everyone ... wouldn't it be nice to have a real Moiraine give you a massage and snap you out of it ... Jordan had a giant leap of imagination with that ... Thirteen, Lan was indestructible ... I knew a guy like this once in the Marine Corp ... he died early on from a massive coronary. Fourteen, how many books do you have to read to find out if the gleeman is really alive ?? Fifteen, how many books to you have to read to find out if Rand ever sees Two Rivers or Tam ??? Sixteen, wonder what made Robert Jordan so sure that people would keep reading to find out ??? Seventeen, what ever happened to the gray horse Rand was riding when they left two rivers ... I could make up a short story if anyone cares. Eighteen, other than the females I couldn't find any minorities in Jordan's story ... what color were all the people ... it doesn't make any difference, but if Rand had red hair ... how about all the other people. Nineteen, was Moiraine Sedai a babe ? I think Elayne is a babe, and I think I could go for her Mother, Morgase ... mothers have always liked me .... Twenty, them Trollocs ain't a new idea, I met a couple in South Brooklyn one night. Jordan must have been to Brooklyn too ! So, having made fun of your favorite Author ... let me stop. 782 pages of fine print, six days on airplanes and airports, several trips to the bathroom, late night and early morning reading punctuated by numerous naps and I have to admit Mr. Jordan is one hell of a story teller ... his words draw a distinct picture, gloomy, but you can see it ... and his characters seem human and real ... he fabricates a world that never existed, his first page REALLY was a clean sheet of paper. Admirable American literature to say the least.
Think we could do a TV series ? ... this one book is worth at least 26 weeks ... just think seven books so far ... thats seven years ... longer than StarTrek ... maybe in the next millenium ... that is ... a couple
of years from now.
